Meta-Taxonomy of Influence Systems: Manipulation, Control, and Cognitive Defense, A Framework for Mapping Psychological, Sociological, and Technological Mechanisms of Power

Influence and control are everywhere—woven into marketing campaigns, political messaging, cult dynamics, and digital psyops. Yet despite their pervasive presence, most discussions remain siloed within specific domains: psychological manipulation in cults, narrative engineering in media, or behavioral targeting in advertising. This reference page is my attempt to break that fragmentation. It serves as a centralized, evolving repository of sources that explore influence not just in isolated contexts, but as a meta-level phenomenon spanning psychological, sociological, and technical dimensions. By linking all related posts back here, I aim to trace the shared mechanisms behind persuasion, coercion, and control—whether they appear in a boardroom pitch, a propaganda reel, or a social media algorithm. The patterns are striking, and the implications are profound.
